Add a transaction

Add a buy or sell transaction to create or update a position in your portfolio account.

When to add a transaction

Add a transaction when you bought or sold an asset and want the position, cost, and portfolio totals to reflect that activity.

What information you need

  • The account where the transaction belongs.
  • The asset you bought or sold.
  • The transaction type: buy or sell.
  • The date, quantity, and price or amount.
  • Any fee you want included in your portfolio history.

Find the asset

  • Use asset search to choose the asset you bought or sold.
  • Set the asset type first, such as Stock, Crypto, or Commodity.
  • The asset type changes which market search is used and helps Bitease return the right kind of results.
  • Search by symbol or name, such as AAPL, BTC, or Gold.
  • Select the matching result from the list instead of typing only free text.
  • If multiple results look similar, compare the name, symbol, asset type, and exchange before selecting.
  • Use manual asset options only when the asset is not available through search and manual entry is supported.

Add the transaction

  1. Open Portfolio and choose Add transaction from the account or position you want to update.
  2. Choose the asset type that matches the asset you bought or sold.
  3. Search for and select the asset.
  4. Choose Buy or Sell.
  5. Enter the transaction date, quantity, and price or total amount.
  6. Add fees if needed.
  7. Save the transaction.

After saving

Bitease recalculates the account, position, and overview values after the transaction is saved. Review the overview to confirm the result looks right.
