Change an asset's currency

Use Change price source in Edit asset to select another available price source for the same investment. Its trading currency becomes the asset currency, while your recorded transactions keep their original amounts and currencies.

1. When to use this option

Use this option when you want to value an existing investment in another trading currency, or replace a price source that is no longer available. For example, an existing Bitcoin asset using BTC-USD can switch to an available BTC-USDC pair.

The option applies to market-provider assets and keeps the current provider. Choose a source for the same investment. Available currencies depend on the instruments offered by that provider; selecting a currency alone does not create a new trading pair.

2. Change the asset currency

  1. Open the portfolio account containing the asset and choose Edit asset from its actions menu.
  2. Choose Change price source. The current source and asset currency remain visible for comparison.
  3. For a crypto or currency pair, choose the desired quote currency. Search for the same investment and select an available result.
  4. Check the new price source, trading pair and currency before saving.
  5. Save the asset, then review its current value, transaction history and Performance results.

You need write access to save the change. If a source is unavailable or the selected instrument cannot be verified, choose another available result or retry the source lookup.

3. What stays unchanged

The asset remains in the same account with the same identity and transaction history. Existing purchases, sales and linked fees retain their recorded dates, quantities, amounts and currencies. Changing the price source does not rewrite earlier transactions or create a purchase, sale or cash exchange.

If another asset in the same account already uses the selected price source, both assets remain separate. Their histories are not merged. New transactions for the changed asset use its new currency; editing an existing transaction retains that transaction's original currency.

4. How values and Realized results can change

Current and historical valuations and returns may change because the asset now uses a different price source and trading currency. Your portfolio reporting currency is a separate setting and is not changed by this action.

On the Realized tab of the Performance dashboard, an asset with transactions in multiple currencies uses its current asset currency as the calculation currency. Each transaction amount is converted at its own historical transaction-date rate; fees and refunds use their own dates. Purchase cost and purchase fees are allocated in proportion to the units sold, and the net sale result is converted to your portfolio currency at the sale-date rate. Changing the asset currency can therefore recalculate earlier exits.

An asset whose purchases and sales all use one transaction currency keeps its native Realized calculation in that currency. Changing its current price source alone does not convert those purchases at older reporting-currency rates.

5. If historical exchange rates are missing

Performance uses stored historical exchange rates. Missing required rates are requested for background retrieval. If an exact rate is unavailable, the closest available historical rate may make the result indicative. Without a usable rate, the affected result remains unavailable until the required data is available.

Check the explanation beside an unavailable result and revisit Performance after background retrieval completes. Changing the price source preserves the original transaction evidence; it does not assume stablecoins equal a dollar or invent missing historical rates.
